THE Boom Logistics Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association (EGCA) team will take on Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) Pennant heavyweight Subiaco-Floreat on its home ground in Round 2 of the Statewide Twenty20 competition.
The game, from 10.45am at Floreat Oval on Sunday, December 7, is a must-win if the EGCA team is to progress to the Round 3 quarter finals played later the same day.
Chairman of EGCA, Ian 'Scooter' Dunstan, described Subiaco-Floreat as “one of the power clubs” in WACA Pennant.
They are third on the first grade table behind Melville and Scarborough and progressed to Round 2 by defeating Wanneroo recently.
“Kim Hughes - former Australian Captain, Terry Alderman - well known Ashes hero, and other Western Warriors in Murray Goodwin, Gavin Swan, Tom Hogan and the multi-sport talents of Michael Clark and Todd Breman are just some to progress from Subiaco-Floreat to higher cricketing honours in the past,” Mr Dunstan said.
“The Boom Logistics EGCA are very excited to be playing such a club at a premier WACA venue and will look to use their impressive first-up effort to give confidence in proceeding deeper into the Statewide Twenty20 competition.”
The EGCA team defeated suburban Perth Turf side Wembley Districts in Kalgoorlie in Round 1.
If it can defeat Subiaco-Floreat, it will face either WACA Pennant club, University, or the WA Indigenous XI in the quarter finals.
Selector and EGCA Twenty20 coach, Andrew Zafer, said the 12 players who won in Round 1 had been retained, but with Jeremy Epis from Hannans Cricket Club and Matt Muchall from North Kalgoorlie Cricket Club added to the squad of Matt Fink from North Kalgoorlie as captain; Chris Johnston, Daniel Campo and Todd Altus of Great Boulder Cricket Club; Ryan Mitchell, Craig Mitchell, Nick Willis and Craig Fritchley of North Kalgoorlie; Zane Arthur and Michael Worthington of Lake View Cricket Club; and Aaron Hooper and Nick Murphy of Hannans.
Mr Zafer said the squad will be trimmed to 12 after Sunday's Round 7 of the local competition.
