GOLDFIELDS organisations which provide services to Indigenous people and/or ethnic minority group who have experienced issues with the private rental market are encouraged to attend a special forum next week.
The forum will provide information regarding the inquiry into section 80 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
The Commissioner for Equal Opportunity has established the inquiry into whether different ethnic minority and Indigenous groups are discriminated against on the basis of race in the private rental market, both in metro and regional WA, and possible causes and remedies of such established race based discrimination.
Because the committee has started that it is aware there is a need to recognise different experiences between and within ethnic minority and Indigenous groups in the private rental market, an investigation will be conducted.
The investigation will use a parallel process for different ethnic minority and Indigenous groups to enable these differences to be recognised.
A series of information forums has been organised where advocates, service providers and group representatives will be able to be fully informed of the purpose of the Inquiry, the process for it and guidelines for the making of submissions.
Representatives from organisations that are aware of, or provide services, to Indigenous peoples and/or ethnic minority groups who have or are experiencing issues with the private rental market, are encouraged to attend.
The Kalgoorlie session is being held on Tuesday (July 22) from 2pm to 4pm at the WMC Conference Centre, WA School of Mines, 44 MacDonald Street, Kalgoorlie.
