Collection conservation measures

21/08/2008 10:48:00 PM
ACCESS to parts of the Australian Prospectors and Miners Hall of Fame has been restricted while assessments on historic machinery are carried out.

Perth conservators reinvestigated parts of the Hainault collection last week after it was determined last month many objects required significant conservation work.

Four headframes, two ore bins, a series of horse drawn vehicles and a locomotive have been fenced off this week to restrict public access.

Western Australian Museum acting chief executive, Diana Jones, said an engineer’s report is being commissioned to help determine the work required to conserve the objects and conservators will endeavour to preserve them on site.

She said some objects may be removed temporarily from the museum.
