CELEBRATING 50 years is an important milestone for anyone. But celebrating five decades in the music industry is a momentous occasion.
The Delltones do it in style with their Anniversary Tour kicking of on April 2. They will be appearing at the Goldfields Art Centre in Kalgoorlie-Boulder on Friday, April 4.
Backing vocals in many 50s songs incorporated the words DooWop among others, Ian Wilson said, which has no real meaning but creates a nice rhythm. He commented that it is still apparent in modern music, just using modern words.
The Delltones have their roots in rhythm and blues. Not a lot has changed over the 50 years, except the band’s change from vocal group to vocal band.
Picking up their own instruments and making their own music gave the Delltones even more energy and popularity.
Of course, it is not always a smooth road.
“Sometimes I wonder about the relevance of our music and the way we play, but once we’re on stage, thoughts like that are
irrelevant,” Mr Wilson said. “It’s all about the music.”
The Delltones’ success relied on Australian audiences during the time of The Beatles, when Australian musicians wandered to England in search of fame. This resulted in a sort of soft spot within Australian hearts.
Mr Wilson firmly believes that “music is a celebration, and that’s the way it should be”.
Celebrate with the band during their tour and be a part of music history.
